Speaking at the 2017 Women's March in Downtown.

“In the last four years as commissioner, I’ve prioritized green space, the environment, and our quality of life. From eliminating Styrofoam in our parks and toxic weed killers that filter into Biscayne Bay to mandating workforce housing downtown, we’ve got our city heading in the right direction.

However, there is still much to be done and if we want a true 21st century city, as equitable as it is prosperous, then we need to finish what we started.

— Ken Russell

Traffic

Miami is going through a huge new wave of development and growth. With that, comes traffic. Faced by this new reality, we can decide to continue with the status quo of car culture, or reprioritize the pedestrian and explore new ways to increase mobility across the city. I've consistently favored the latter, working on projects like Complete Streets, a pilot program in Downtown that provided dedicated bus and bike lanes. Projects like these have set the groundwork for future street planning in the urban core and I’ve been supportive of similar projects throughout District 2. Additionally, I've expanded trolley routes into abutting municipalities and have supported eco-friendly transit alternatives like FREEBEE and electric scooters to provide greater mobility within neighborhoods.  Affordable Housing

The City of Miami is one of the most expensive cities to live in, with long-time residents and newer, young professionals alike finding it difficult to pay their rent and make ends meet. Substantive problems like these demand honest and comprehensive solutions and as such, I was able to pass a first-of-its-kind inclusionary zoning ordinance that mandates developers within the Omni area of my district provide a minimum number of affordable units in new construction. Green Space

I had my start cleaning up the contaminated park in front of my house in 2015. As Commissioner, I’ve worked to clean up another six contaminated parks in Miami and we’re close to completion! We need to cherish the parks we have and we need lots more of them. See more accomplishments in this area here.

 Crime and Safety

The safety and security of residents is our number one priority. 2018 marked a 50-year low for crime in the City of Miami, down another 9% from the year prior. I will continue to work alongside law enforcement and Mayor Francis Suarez to draft meaningful legislation that will make our streets safer and more enjoyable for all.

Any campaign is only as strong as its following. Would you like to help me in continuing this mission towards a safer, more resident-focused Miami?
